Minister of  Defence  Professor Milica Pejanovic-Djurisic, PhD attended meeting of defense ministers the US-Adriatic Charter (A5) held in Skopje. The topic was  ,,Common challenges and joint solutions ".

The Meeting was implemented through four panels: “Challenges and perspectives of the Euro- Altlanic integration for providing sustainable peace and development of the region”; “Global economic crisis and its implication on regional security and development”; energy security issues : global challenges- regional solutions “prospects of the implementation of the NATO’s smart defense concept within the regional security cooperation in the eve of the Chicago NATO Summit“.

Minister Pejanovic-Djurisic  stressed that since the beginning, Montenegro strives for strenghtening of regional cooperation and stability and resolving open issues by peaceful means, which resulted in establishing very good cooperation with all the coutries from the region. The Minister stressed that the accession of the Western Balkans, the North Atlantic Alliance the best guarantee of peace and security in this part of Europe.

Minister Pejanovic – Djurisic said  that Montenegro fully supports the NATO concept of “smart defense " and the EU concept “pooling and sharing," which are of great importance for all countries in order to rationalize costs and improve use of capacity.

Minister Pejanovic-Djurisic emphasized that the A5 membership has a double meaning, the Army of Montenegro has more opportunities to cooperate with other Member States in joint exercises, and on the other side members of this Charter are contributing to the success of Montenegro's progress towards membership in NATO.

At the meeting, the Joint Statement was signed by member states ministers. The Joint  Statement welcomes the strengthening of regional cooperation and the progress of Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path towards NATO.
