Eight members of the Armed Forces of Montenegro were sent to NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battlegroup in Latvia.

They departed together with the colleagues from the Armed Forces of Slovenia, since they will be deployed within the Reconnaissance Platoon of Slovenian Armed Forces.

The multinational battle group in Latvia, based in Adazi, is led by Canada as a framework nation. Within the group, which has about 1,400 soldiers, are members of the Armed Forces of Albania, Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.

At the Summit in Warsaw in 2016, Allies have agreed to strengthen the military presence in the eastern part of the Alliance, within NATO's defence and deterrence policy, with four multi-national battalion-size battalions in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, on a rotational basis.

The battle groups, led by Great Britain, Canada, Germany and the United States, represent multinational forces with the aim to demonstrate the power of the transatlantic link and make it clear that an attack on an ally is considered as an attack on the entire Alliance.

Montenegro, by its presence in eFP Latvia, confirms its aspiration to continuously contribute to the comprehensive efforts of the Alliance in terms of strengthening the security of its citizens and territory, in accordance with the Decision of the Defence and Security Council adopted in July 2018.

Engagement of Armed Forces of Montenegro members will be conducted according to the principle of rotation, for a period of six months.
